It’s that time again where I share my #DissertationJourney with you! Since the last time I posted, a quarter has ended and a new one has begun. This is the first week of this quarter and I am working on proposal revisions to submit to my second committee member. This is a new month and new quarter and I have high expectations. It has been one year since I started this journey and there have been many challenges, approvals, denials, setbacks as well as moments of celebration. As I look back, I have accomplished several things regarding my dissertation all while I have been healing from a brain injury.
March is Brain Injury Awareness Month! This is a month where I plan to bring as much awareness as I can to others about brain injury. On July 8, 2016, I experienced a brain injury as the result of a car accident. The journey from then to now has been one that I at first rejected. I was in denial of the changes I had to make because of the injury. I found myself on a discovery path as I had entered two new worlds – a new me and dissertation! Both worlds have been very uncomfortable but well worth living for. These new worlds have brought many opportunities for me to grow and encourage others to embrace life with a different perspective. It was when I embraced the new me and the dissertation journey that I began to understand the purpose and benefit from the experience.
The theme for the 2018-2020 Brain Injury Association of America is “Change Your Mind About Brain Injury”. As we enter the last month of this quarter, let’s approach it with the #ChangeYourMind theme. I encourage you to monitor your thoughts about the situations in your life. #ChangeYourMind about the challenges you might be experiencing in this season of your life. #ChangeYourMind about the obstacles that seem to be in your way. #ChangeYourMind concerning the roadblocks you feel you have. Step back from the situation, take another look, and #ChangeYourMind!
As always, I am excited to share my dissertation journey with you. I ask that you share this blog with someone else. We all are going through some type of journey and this might be the encouragement you or that person need to go a litter further. Let’s encounter this life changing experience together!

Scripture Meditation: Philippians 4:8 – “Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.”
