Today marks the beginning of the 8th week on my dissertation journey. So, I am taking this moment to reflect on my progress and the journey ahead. These last few weeks have been very challenging and demanding of my entire being. With about a month left in this quarter, I take this moment to search out what I have learned, what I need to accomplish, and what I can celebrate.
I have learned how to persevere during challenging situations by remembering the why, concentrating on the now, and understanding there is a process. Remembering the why keeps us grounded during adversity. Some examples of the why we might have are – Why are you pursing a degree? Why are you starting a business? Why are you saving money? Whatever trying situation is before you right now, stop and consider the why. Concentrating on the now helps us to be mindful of our present experience. It helps us to personally embrace our current moment – taking it in one breath at a time. Understanding there is a process helps us to remember that things develop over time and not instantaneously.
I am waiting on feedback from the prospectus I submitted last week. The prospectus is a brief document that provides preliminary information about my dissertation research. After the chair of my dissertation approves it, the other committee member must review and provide feedback. Once that approval has been obtained, then the program director must review and approve. Then, I will be able to move forward with developing the extenuating research and proposal to conduct the study.
Help me celebrate that I have a solid topic for research, great foundation in my problem, purpose, and research questions, and have submitted my prospectus a week prior to the plan. Taking note of completing these necessary steps helps me to keep pushing forward. I encourage you to take about 5 minutes at the end of each week to make note of what you have learned, what things you need to complete and celebrate things you have achieved.
As always, I am excited to share my dissertation journey with you. I ask that you share this blog with someone else. We all are going through some type of journey and this might be the encouragement you or that person need to go a litter further. Let’s encounter this life changing experience together!
